1 這場實驗是由當時美國海軍提供財務支持，實驗初衷是*研究監獄中的囚犯的行為*，以及監獄中不同力量之間的對抗（force against force），比如獄監與囚犯。試驗之後的發表，其標題切中要害：Interpersonal dynamics in a simulated prison。這研究的是監獄中的人際關係動態。

2 這場實驗的最重要的結論是關於個體對權利的服從（Obedience to Authority），進而「推斷」個體對情景（situation）的適應，其表徵為人格特徵（trait）的（巨大）變化。情景！情景！情景！重要的要素說三遍。也就是外部環境。相關理論可以參考Mischel & Shoda (1995), Fleeson (2007, 2012), Funder (2008)。我也十分推崇Personality state theory vs Personality trait。

3 獄監的極端行為（abuse of power）是這次實驗的副產品。在之後的發表中，作者更強調的是being powerful和being powerless的對比，以及模擬監獄實驗中扮演囚犯的實驗人之後對being powerless的厭惡。
之後學者（甚至）對史丹福監獄實驗中 獄監的極端行為 是否是靠譜的實驗觀察頗有微詞。比如：
「who do heed authority in doing evil do so knowingly not blindly, actively not passively, creatively not automatically. They do so out of belief not by nature, out of choice not by necessity. In short, they should be seen—and judged—as engaged followers not as blind conformists」
（模擬監獄中的個體行為並非自發的，也非「自然性」，不具有「必要性」，是選擇之後的結果。）
「Volunteers for the prison study scored significantly higher on measures of the abuserelated dispositions of aggressiveness, authoritarianism, Machiavellianism, narcissism, and social dominance and lower on empathy and altruism, two qualities inversely related to aggressive abuse. Although implications for the SPE remain a matter of conjecture, an interpretation in terms of person-situation interactionism rather than a strict situationist account is indicated by these findings.」
（模擬監獄中的個體行為當被看做是個體——情景的交互作用而不是嚴格意義上的情景脅迫。）

4 什麼是人本性？什麼是人本性的善與惡？這樣的問題也許從精神上（spirit）討論可能更富有成效。但是我知道，進化心理學的研究證實了：男人愛美女；美女比醜女獲得更高的社會評價；為了確保基因的傳承，古代人類中存在弒嬰現象，以及對老弱病殘的遺棄。這些就能證明人性是惡的嗎？

史丹福監獄實驗並沒有試圖論證人性的善惡，也沒有人可以。
SPE didn』t intend to investigate whether the nature humanity is good and evil. And no one will ever tell the nature humanity is good and evil.

這部電影除了比利 Crudup的表演有些地方太過做作（比如和Olivia爭吵完之後回到monitor前拆領結），其餘包括節奏 劇本 配樂和cast，都是佳作。尤其是在一號房用床把房門奉上之後，「guard」對其餘兩間房的奇襲的處理，個人認為恰到好處。
