short film review

       I was at the screening in Hong Kong Premiere for 『The Last Race』.The film is almost like an unofficial sequel to 『Chariots of fire』 which I saw when I was a kid, so this was interesting to see. It is based on a moving, real-life story of 艾瑞克 Liddell- A dedicated Christian, and a British gold-medalist runner who lived and taught in Tian Jin- He was then later brought into a Japanese internment camp during the war. I am surprised that they are showing this movie in mainland China because of its religious themes, so it is quite a big deal that this movie is being screened here.

      The soundtrack was beautiful and was a great compliment to the movie. It was performed by Frances Yip who is very well-known in Hong Kong and China for her song 『Shanghai Tang』. The cast was mixed and diverse which was great to see. Shawn Dou and Joseph Fiennes did a very fine acting job, and many of the scenes were cinematically beautiful. I also heard that one of the directors went around mainland China and America to interview lots of different people who were related to this historic event- including some of the survivors from the camp. There was so much dedication that was put into it which is what really makes this film. China has a very rich history but very few people know of this story, so the plot and context of this film was very good and informative for the audience.
