First thing first, CHRIS EVANS IS LOSING HIS SHAPE. He obviously didn't bother to work out for a romcom.
If anyone's curious with the definition of a romcom, this is a romcom. Well it could also be a chick flick cause chicks dig Chris Evans. But anyway there's a gay best friend, a weird (cool) squad, a vibrant city scene, a funeral that awakes the protagonist, a twisted character flaw, a condescending tone pretending to despise a certain culture trend but actually it's just all for witty bantering.
These are all cool. I've watched way too many shitty romcoms, I could tell this one has its merit. And yes, this is certainly a cool film. The cast is great. The wittiness is just about right. I very much relate to Me(of course, John Doe you don't need a name, this aint some average romcom) "People are petty emotion whores. They don't pair off to connect; they do it to spread misery." A soulless love hater, how interesting. But goddamn, it just feels right to belong to somewhere or someone. The emotion needy little whore, that's the mankind identity crisis. But if the film is solely focused on to love or not, it's losing big time. It's not a story about struggle of two and it's pretty much a one-man struggle. The man versus himself, the conflicting part of a character.
The most annoying part though is how "I" make up with all his friends. Your best girl friend said ily and you just grabbed a bottle of wine and ran off? Not a sound move. And the cab scene in San Francisco, what the fuck is wrong with that pop punk music at the back. I laughed so hard at it but at one point I kinda wished that he actually crashed the wedding in front of one of those hearts. Ha ha not funny. And of course Michelle Monaghan is also starring in a Nicholas Sparks novel adapted film. Talk about range:)
I don't even know why I'm typing this nonsense in English. No.
