American Psycho
A smart satire on the yuppies and society as a whole. The movie's quirky pace and tone makes it interesting and innovative. American Psycho ponders the development of modernity and sanity of human beings and leaves the audience with an ending that is truly open to our own imagination as we situate ourselves with the world the characters are in. Indeed, the yuppy world seems homogenous to us, and in a sense manifests itself into a sort of insatiable desire for the characters to distinguish themselves with one another while maintaining one's self to be perfect. Since there are so many motifs and satires embedded in the film, it is easy for us to get lost in its ideological maze, which really confused me in later scenes. The movie requires several viewings and perhaps reading of the novel to truly apprehend its meaning, if it is intended to be understood at all in the first place. At the end of the day, it will be remembered by me mostly for the great acting of Christian Bale.
