Game Change

Watched this year's presidential campaign closely so this one depicting the same big show of 2008 is very appealing. I've heard Sarah Palin more than a couple of times and had the impression that she made a fool of herself. Not until this brilliant piece from HBO did i really know the incident thoroughly enough--how she was brought to the national political scene and given the stage to exaggerate her weaknesses in certain aspects, that is, anything other than energy. After the campaign came to the end, Stevie kept beating himself up over his recommendation of Palin and I believe it's not for the rushed inadequate vetting but for what Nicole has said that he didn't grill her because he wanted her to pass and it all worked out. And when Stevie boy was interviewed by 安德生 古柏 and asked whether he would do it again if there were a second chance, he couldn't answer, probably because deep down he knew he would and it was a set course. The result was predetermined by "the cold hand of fate" from the very beginning, just as they talked in the bar approaching the end, that with Bush and the economy they didn't have a game. It was Sarah Palin, a hockey mom, who brought them a narrow window of making it. She was the great actress needed to match Obama's movie star charisma but unfortunately no match for his brain. The movie secretively implies the question about Obama's competence as a president by comparing him with Sarah Palin and more profoundly expressed concerns over the dynamics of presidential elections that only stars get elected president. Indeed, it poses an insidious threat to America where presidents are made stars rather than the other way round. And at the end, former White House communications director Nicolle Wallace told Stevie that she couldn't vote, it tells exactly how dreadful these future charismatic leaders will be. I'm sad that the slogan of John McCain "country first" stays as slogan when the problem is that he couldn't afford to carry it out.
