Edi, like any other young girl, full of dreams, always wants to see the world outside grey gardens, always wants to meet new people. Year by year, her color is fading into grey, but she still wants to go out to explore the unfamiliar world. However, her mum stopped her, in a soft way, providing a shelter. She wants to leave, but she needs a better reason, better than the reason why she should stay.
 
She escaped once, but returned anyhow, with a broken heart. Year by year, she just let her youth fade in grey gardens until one day two men came to visit.

They are photographers. They are going to make a film about her. They reminded her the old dreams which had been long forgotten. Then, she started to regret that her youth and her dreams had gone far. She wanted to blame her mum, because she never let her go. However, what could stop her if she insisted. She started to recall, many years ago, the one-time escape. She returned to grey garden because she got hurt and never ever left. She could have struggled in the city for her dreams, then her life would be so different. When she held back, she was safe again, but she missed her chances, she missed the dangerous but colorful world. She chose to stay in grey gardens, by her mum’s side, for safe, also for love. She spent her youth to tick away her mum’s lonely time.

Year by year, her youth is fading, but her dreams never die. The dangerous outside becomes more and more interesting and exciting for her, even the pain she got before becomes so attractive. If she could turn back time, she would rather choose to struggle outside.

 Finally, one day, she got the chance to go back to the sin city. She faced it with pleasure, she was welcome anything (pain or joy) coming to her. What makes the world dangerous makes it beautiful.   舉報
