下午的三點半

      電影結束的時候，我總是想起開場這幾句話。
      一種語言，有它自己的音節和韻律感，有它自己的涵義，是無法被翻譯的。你只能感受它，驚異於它的美和為之動容。


    "always to look life in the face,
      and to know it for what it is.
      at last, to love it for what it is,
      and then to put it away."
      這麼多年，我一直想著這些句子。
 「請直面你的生活。」to know it for what it is的意思是，領悟你的生活。to love it for what it is的意思是，活在你真實的生活里。

    "I wanted to write about it all.
      Everything that happens in a moment.
      The way the flowers look when you carry them in your arms.
      This towel, how it smells , how it feels...
      it's thread.
      All our feelings, yours and mine.
      The history of it.
      Who we once were. Everything in the world. Everything mixed up."
      從窗口墜下的男人說的話。
      他還說，你愛我，因為你以此逃避自己的生活，你借我逃避自己的生活。
      那一瞬間的鋼琴聲，不是任何別的樂器。
      窗外冷色調陽光像冬天清晨，雖然電影裡堅持說是下午三點半。


    "If I were thinking clearly, Leonard, I would tell you:
      that I wrestle alone...
      in the dark, in the deep dark and that only I can know...
      only I can understand my own condition.
      You live with the threat, you tell me. You live with the threat of my extinction.
      Leonard, I live with it too.
      This is my right.
      It is the right of every human being.
      I choose not the suffocating anesthetic of these suburbs...
      but the violent jolt of the capital, that is my choice!
      The meanest patient, just even the very lowest, is allowed some say
      in the matter of her own prescription.
      Thereby she defines her humanity.
      I wish, for your sake, Leonard, that I were happy in this quietness
      but if it is choice between Richmond and death...
      I choose death."
