有點失望

One tragedian holds that life is a comedy as the aspirations of human beings are always ludicrous and irrational. People watch tragedies to get themselves elevated. One comedian argues that there is nothing funny about living, everyone go around once and when it’s over it’s over. The essence of life is tragedic instead of comic. Therefore, tragedy confronts; comedy escapes. Then given the same material, the two playwrights make up totally different stories. Of course, one is pathetic while the other is romantic.

Personally, I perfer the comedical interpretation. Human is dust, made of dust and returning to dust in the end. So we have to search for humors within the frame of tragical elements. One cliché says that your attitude determines the life you lead. I think that’s what the director tries to convey to the audience.

The director, Woody Allen, is a big shot in Hollywood. But I do not have the taste for this kind of film, in which the director explicitly wants to tell you something big or profound by using a witty plot. For me, a good film has more than meets the eyes. When you are watching the film, you do not realize the existence of the director. You are totally immersed in the story and sympathize with the hero or heroine when, suddenly, the story turns out contrary to your expectations. Then you realize the existence of the director and begin to think about the implication of the film.
