refreshing
It is difficult to review Garden State because it probably means something different to everyone. Half way through the film, and I was like, wow, I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen next, or where this is going! The story is very weird at first, and nothing seems to make sense.
This is the story of Andrew Largeman(Zach Braff), whose life is not exactly the happiest: depression, heavy medication and the news that his mother had just drowned in her tub. It takes us through his journey of self-realization and self-discovery when he went back to his hometown for his mom's funeral.
The movie is a lot of things, it is a drama, a comedy, and ultimately a love story. It is almost heart wrenching to see how Andrew grows from emotional numbness to what he becomes at the end of the movie. My favorite part of the film is when the three of them (Zach Braff, Natalie Portman and Peter Sarsgaard) were standing at the edge of the cliff, soaked in rain, and screaming into the valley. It almost feels like the rain was cleansing all of his emotional shields away, so that he can finally start living his life.
I think I will definitely have to watch this movie again.
