Very under-rated
This is one of the most under-rated films in the whole history of cinema. Possibly because it was made twenty years too late. Had it come out during the Cold War, "Blue Sky" would have been hailed as a controversial yet profound masterpiece, tens of thousands of military housewives would have identified with the tragedy of the herione, masterfully captured by 傑西卡 Lange, and the critics would have kow-towed to public sentiments.
But that was not to be. The year it came out, 1994, US audience no longer rushed to the theater to watch a film for its psychological depth rather than $-million visual effect, and the part of audience that could best appreciate the silent despair of the heroine and recognize Lange's characterization as the virtuoso performance that it was, were by now watching old sitcom replay on TV in retirement homes. Such is the fate, and the film is safely lodged in the category of cult classics.
